Catherine Rains

Catherine Rains is a mixed media collage artist with an unusual story. Becoming an artist was an accident, not part of her life plan by any stretch of the imagination. Until age 33, she often said "I don't have an artistic bone in my body". Catherine discovered her life calling in the middle of a rewarding, but very stressful day job, where she created a collage for the first time as a way to relieve stress. This simple beginning eventually led to her quitting her day gig and running a thriving art business for the next four years, which included having three one-woman gallery shows, selling at juried art festivals and wholesaling to retail stores across the southeast.

Then her journey took an unexpected turn. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, which led her back to her day gig and the end of her 24 year marriage. For the next ten years, she traveled across the country for her day gig and created almost no art. Two years ago Catherine decided to find a way to integrate the day job she loved with the art she could not live without, and figured out a way to take art on the road with her. Packing two 50 pound suitcases, she set up an art studio in every hotel she visited, and created a lot of art along the way.

After twelve years of traveling for her day job, Catherine once again became a full time artist on January 1, 2018, and is happily creating mixed media collages, and selling them online through Instagram and her website.
