This painting shows how water is wasted in growing maize. Maize is a very water-hungry plant. It is mainly grown to feed livestock. We end up digging maxi-basins, which are an ecological aberration that ultimately dries up water tables and rivers. Why not grow sorghum for fodder instead, which requires much less water?
